'Fringe' star Noble hints at plot twist

Fringe star John Noble has suggested that one of the show's regular characters could be killed off.

The show's most recent episodes concluded with the mysterious Observer (Michael Cerveris) watching Walter (Noble) and his son Peter (Joshua Jackson) and appearing surprised that one of the pair was "still alive".

In an official Fox interview, Noble suggested that Walter's twisted doppelganger Walternate could launch an attempt on his counterpart's life.

"Walternate's case is much easier to make [if] he doesn't have this genius on the other side," he explained. "So it could be that Walter is in danger."

He added that killing off the eccentric scientist would be "a huge thing to do to the story".

"Or it could be Peter," he suggested. "That would be equally devastating. In terms of balance and imbalance, we already know that one of the Peters is dead, so balance won't be achieved until the other one is dead."

He concluded: "Obviously we don't want to kill off either of those characters at this stage, but I think there are valid cases to be made for both."

Fringe returns to Fox on January 21 at 9/8c.
